Police solve double slaying: Homicide was first of 2012

Police made an arrest in the Dec. 31 double shooting that killed two sitting in a car parked in Olney early this morning, said Capt. James Clark of the Homicide Unit at a press conference this afternoon.

The fatalities were the first two homicides of 2012. “It feels very good to get off to a good start,” Clark said.

Kevin Brown, 30, is currently being processed and will be charged with murder and related offenses for the shooting deaths of Arlette Aguero, 31, and Alejandro Garro, 34, on New Year’s Eve.

Brown allegedly lured Aguero to the area of 2nd Street and Chew Avenue and started a conversation with the woman, then opened fire into the car without warning. Both Aguero and Garro were hit multiple times in the head and body and found by police slumped in their seats, the car still idling.

Aguero was the target, as Brown was angry over a previous fight they had, Clark said, though he would not comment on whether the altercation was a lover’s quarrel. Garro appears to have been an innocent bystander who happened to be Aguero’s passenger at the time.

Brown was identified by tipsters early on in the investigation and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to Clark. He was taken into custody at Frankford and Lehigh avenues around 1 a.m. this morning after an officer ran his name during a routine traffic stop.

Clark said that Brown was known to police and has a history of violence.
