Teen shot in Nicetown Friday was witness to fatal shooting Tuesday
A teenager shot in Nicetown Friday afternoon witnessed a fatal shooting Tuesday that police believed to be accidental.
The teen was shot three times in the stomach around 3 p.m. on the 1400 block of West Pike Street as he was on his way to the same house on the 3900 block of Elser Street where police said he witnessed Tuesday’s shooting of Devante Reid, allegedly by friend William Barrow when he was “messing around with a gun.” The teen is currently in critical condition at Temple University Hospital, police said.
Police had Barrow, 17, in custody Tuesday for questioning about Reid’s shooting, but said they believed the incident to be accidental.
Reid, who was shot in the head, was taken off life support Thursday and died. The Simon Gratz High School student and young father’s family does not think the shooting was an accident, according to his Facebook page.
Barrow’s family members reportedly said they have received death threats after Reid’s shooting and that the two other witnesses who were present have received threats as well.
Police are trying to determine if Reid’s shooting and Friday’s shooting are related.
