Alicia Keys to sing Obama’s praise in Philly next week

Alicia Keys will be here Monday for an Obama campaign event to discuss the impact of the upcoming election’s outcome on women’s issues.

The Grammy award-winner will join senior Obama administration adviser Valerie Jarrett and Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz to host the city’s “Women Vote 2012 Summit” at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It is free and open to the public.

“In his three years in office, President Obama has been an advocate for us since day one – from making health care more accessible and affordable to ensuring women can fight for equal pay for an equal day’s work,” Keys said in a statement.

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act extending the statute of limitations for pay discrimination lawsuits was the first bill Obama signed into law when elected, particularly salient in Pennsylvania as a typical female full time worker here makes nearly $460,000 during her career than a man at the same job, according to the campaign.

Romney has promised to “get rid of” Planned Parenthood and called the pro-choice Roe v. Wade ruling “one of the darkest moments in Supreme Court history.”
