Police release horrifying video showing attempted abduction of 10-year-old S. Phila girl

Police yesterday released chilling video of an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl in the Whitman section of South Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

Mayor Michael Nutter is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Investigators said the girl, of the 2400 block of South Lee Street near Front and Porter streets, was walking home from a store with her two-year-old brother shortly before 4 p.m. when an unknown man in an older-model white four-door car parked on the corner of Porter and Lee streets, police said.

Police said he followed the two children onto Lee Street. The suspect allegedly put his hand over the girl’s mouth and tried to carry her away, but fled in his car east on Porter Street after she struggled and fell.

The suspect is described as a five-foot-nine to six-foot Hispanic male
between the ages of 30 and 40 with a thin build, medium complexion,
short black curly hair and a thin mustache. He was wearing a black short-sleeved t-shirt and blue pants at the time of the attempted abduction.

His vehicle is described as a late 1990s to early 2000s white mid-sized foreign four-door car, possibly a Mitsubishi or a Nissan, with a black scuff mark on the driver’s side rear bumper and dent on the left front fender’s wheel well.

Anyone information is asked to submit a tip by calling 215-686-TIPS (8477) or texting PPD TIP (773847) or to contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251.
