South Jersey mayoral candidate arrested for allegedly selling pot to undercover cop
A mayoral candidate in Stafford Township, N.J. was arrested Friday for allegedly trying to sell marijuana to an undercover detective, according to a report from The Asbury Park Press.
Independent candidate Thomas Litwin, 43, one of two people running against incumbent Republican Mayor John Spodofora in November, is charged with marijuana distribution to an undercover officer and possession of more than 50 grams of pot, synthetic cannabinoids and drug paraphernalia. He is imprisoned at Toms River’s Ocean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Three other men, aged 24, 27 and 44, who rented rooms in Litwin’s home were also reportedly arrested Friday when police executed a search warrant at the residence.
The Barnegat-Manahawkin Patch reported that as Litwin was arrested, he could be heard saying, “this is not a bad day for my candidacy.”
