Changes by Comm. Ramsey to ‘improve operations’ of PPD
Mayor Michael Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey announced major changes in the department’s organizational structure Friday.
A total of 36 changes in command staff have been made. Ramsey said the moves will create a more streamlined system and ensure consistent delivery of services.
With four deputy commissioners retiring in the near future, only one will be replaced due to budgetary constraints, Ramsey said. Denise Turpin has been promoted to deputy commissioner for the Office of Professional Responsibility.
Additionally, five of the six patrol divisions will be changing inspectors, and seven of the city’s 21 police districts will get new captains. Ramsey also said Chief Inspector Myron Patterson, who had been on loan to the School District of Philadelphia, will oversee one of two regional operations commands.
To increase accountability, Ramsey said he will directly oversee the Office of Professional Responsibility, the Office of Standards and Accountability and Forensic Sciences Bureau.
