Police: 5-year-old girl accidentally shoots herself with her father’s gun in Kensington

A 5-year-old girl accidentally shot herself in the foot with her father’s gun inside the family’s Kensington home last night, according to investigators.

Police said the child stepped on the weapon, a Glock semi-automatic handgun, around 11 p.m. last night on the 1800 block of East Wishart Street. She was shot in the bottom of the foot.

The child was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where she is in stable condition. Police said it’s unclear whether the gun was legally registered, though according to some reports, the girl’s father works in private security.

It is not yet known whether any charges will be filed in connection with the case.
