City Council to vote on new district maps

districting

The New York City Districting Commission released new proposed maps for council districts this morning.

Republican Councilman Dan Halloran, who represents District 19, had fought against previous maps that would have divided the Broadway-Flushing area, currently in his district. He praised yesterday’s proposed maps as “reflect[ing] the proper goal of districting: keeping neighborhoods together and preserving their character.”

The Commission will vote at New York Law at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening on whether to send the proposed maps to the Council for a vote. The meeting is open to the public. If the Council approves them, the new districts will take effect for this year’s elections in November.
