A Chelsea man was apparently expecting a special kind of candy in his Valentine’s Day package.

Authorities said Lawrence Ligocki, 62, accepted delivery of a package that contained heart-shaped boxes of chocolate and a white teddy bear that was stuffed with three bags containing 96 grams of crystal meth. The value of the drug was estimated at $10,000, according to authorities.

Ligocki pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges in Chelsea District Court last week, the Suffolk district attorney’s office said today.

Postal employees notified police on Feb. 5 about a suspicious express package addressed to Ligocki. Police responded with a drug-sniffing dog who alerted handlers to the presence of drugs. Police were able to obtain a search warrant and local, state and federal authorities made a controlled delivery to Ligocki who signed for the package.

When police searched his home they also found meth inside a glass jar, authorities said.

Prosecutors asked for $100,000 bail, but a judge ordered Ligocki held on $150 bail. He is due back in court next month.
