City Council is nudging state officials to introduce and pass legislation that would allow for early voting in primary and general elections.

As of the Nov. 6, 2012 general election, 32 states and the District of Columbia allowed qualified voters to cast a ballot in person during a designated period prior to election day. Pennsylvania currently only provides absentee voting, according to Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown.

“When 32 other states have figured out how to make it work, it is time for Pennsylvania to get on board,” said Brown, who introduced the legislation on Thursday. “We need to be doing all we can to increase voter participation in every single precinct across the commonwealth.”
