For the third weekend in a row, forecasters say snow could hit the Boston area on Saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service in Taunton, Mass. issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook on Thursday morning, warning of a “significant coastal storm” that could bring heavy snow to parts of Southern New England.

The statement acknowledges that with the storm a few days away, it’s still hard to tell whether the storm will drop rain, snow, or both — and where. But the NWS has “high confidence” of snow north of the Mass. Pike, mostly overnight Saturday and into Sunday.

“Certainly a very good potential for 6+ inches across our northern interior zones, and perhaps a foot or more of snow in some locations,” forecasters said in another advisory on Thursday morning. “The big concern will be that this will be a wet snow across much of the region, which could lead to some downed tree limbs [and] power outages.” High winds are also a concern.

South of the Pike and along the coast, the forecast is “up in the air,” depending on how the storm develops.

This weekend’s weather is not expected to be as severe as the blizzard that hit two weeks ago, which dumped more than two feet of snow in Boston.
