Three days after WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison was arrested for allegedly choking his wife and threatening to kill her, he announced that he has resigned from his position at the news station.

Morrison announced Wednesday that he would be leaving the station for which he anchored CBS 2 News This Morning and CBS 2 News at Noon, the New York Times reported.

He said, “My family is my first and only priority right now, and I have informed CBS2 management that I need to put all of my time and energy into making sure that I do what’s best for my wife and my son.”

Morrison, 44, was arrested early Sunday morning at the couple’s home in Darien, Conn. after his wife’s mother called the police. When police arrived, they found that Ashley Morrison had red marks on her neck from being choked. Morrison had a gash on his nose, as seen in his mugshot, from a TV remote control that Ashley threw at him, the New York Post writes.

Police said that the anchor also threatened to kill his wife. He was charged with strangulation, threatening and disorderly conduct. Morrison was released on $100,000 bail but ordered to stay at least 100 yards away from Ashley except at work. She is an anchor for CBS MoneyWatch.

After news of his arrest had come out, reports surfaced showing that this was not the first time police were called to the Morrisons’ home.

After he was arraigned on Tuesday, Morrison denied choking his wife, telling reporters that he has never laid a hand on her.
