Philadelphia offers low-income residents property tax payment plan

Without penalty, residents can pay a set amount during an 8-month period to pay off their property taxes. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.

The city reminded residents today that the deadline to apply for the property tax installment payment plan is Thursday.

Without penalty, residents can pay a set amount during an 8-month period to pay off their property taxes. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.  The payment installments begin in May 2013.

After 2013, qualified residents who continue to meet the eligibility requirements and pay on time will automatically be enrolled in a 12-month plan for real estate tax payment.  Applicants who are approved do not have to reapply for the program.

To be eligible, applicants must own and reside in their primary home and meet household income guidelines.  To qualify, the income of a family of four cannot exceed $42,720.  For 2013 enrollment, applicants must use 2011 income information.

Real estate taxes are due in full by March 31.
