Two people were killed this weekend and at least five people were injured – including a police officer – during a rash of unrelated shootings and home invasions, a stabbing and an officer-involved car accident.

Shooting, stabbing hospitalize two men

Police said a 20-year-old man is hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot in the side shortly before 7:30 p.m. near 58th and Market streets in West Philadelphia.

There is no word yet on a motive.

A man is recovering after being stabbed multiple times shortly after 9:15 p.m. in the rear driveway of a home on the 1600 block of South 32nd Street in Grays Ferry.

Police said the man was stabbed in the arm, chest and underarm and rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is in stable condition.

Teen shot during home invasion

A 19-year-old was shot around 11:45 p.m. during a home invasion on the 400 block of West Raymond Street in Feltonville.

Police said the victim’s parents were watching television when two unknown gunman entered the house through an unlocked front door.

One of the men went upstairs to a middle bedroom, where he found the 19-year-old victim.

Police said the suspect struck the teen in the head with a silver handgun and ordered him downstairs at gunpoint.

There, investigators said, he was joined by the second gunman.

The duo demanded money from the victim and rifled through his pockets, taking $50 in cash.

Authorities said before fleeing the house, the first suspect opened fire, striking the teen twice in the left leg.

He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police said he is in stable condition but was expected to undergo surgery Friday night.

No one else in the home was injured.

The hunt is now on for the two men believed to be responsible.

The first suspect is described as a 5’7″ black male of about 20 years of age.

He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a second hoodie wrapped around his face and was armed with a silver gun.

The second suspect is described as a 6’0” black male, also believed to be about 20 years old and also last seen wearing a dark-colored hoodie.

Sleeping family suffers close call

A Kensington family living about two and a half miles away on the 600 block of East Wishart Street suffered a close call about five minutes later, when a stray bullet crashed through their living room window.

Police said a 58-year-old man was awakened by the sound of gunshots around 11:50 p.m.

He went downstairs to investigate and discovered his front window had a bullet hole in it.

The man looked outside and didn’t see anyone on the street, but alerted police.

No injuries were reported.

Man claims girlfriend’s shooting death was accident

A 22-year-old Kensington woman is dead after her boyfriend allegedly shot her in the neck Saturday night.

Police said officers responded to the unit block of East Seltzer Street around 8:15 p.m

Neighbors told investigators a fight had broken out between two men.

One of those men, 28, allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a shot, striking his own girlfriend the neck.

She was rushed to Episcopal Hospital, where she died shortly after 8:30 p.m. The woman’s identity has not yet been released.

Her boyfriend reportedly told investigators the shooting was an accident. Police said the second man believed to have been involved in the fight was gone by the time officers arrived.

There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed against the alleged shooter, but detectives are currently treating the investigation as a homicide.

South Philly homeowner fatally shoots alleged intruder

A South Philadelphia homeowner allegedly shot and killed an intruder early Sunday morning during a home invasion on the 1400 block of South 6th Street near Reed Street.

Police said officers responded to the home shortly after 12:50 a.m. for a report of a break-in and shots fired.

A 63-year-old man who lived there told detectives  two unknown males climbed onto his roof and broke in through a bathroom window on the second floor.

He said the men confronted him, touching off a struggle during which he allegedly retrieved his gun and fired at them. Both of the men then fled back out the bathroom window.

Officers checked the rear roof and found one of the suspects lying there unconscious. He was pronounced dead shortly after 1:15 a.m. That man’s identity has not yet been released.

Police are still looking for the second suspect, described as a clean-shaven white male in his 30s with a medium build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing.

Authorities said they do not expect to file charges against the homeowner in connection with the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.

DUI arrest for driver who police say hit officer

A driver was arrested in Oxford Circle early Sunday morning for allegedly hitting a police officer who was exiting her cruiser.

Police said the officer, who was assigned to the Traffic Unit, was getting out of her car at Large Street and the Roosevelt Boulevard when shortly before 1:30 a.m. an alleged drunk driver slammed into the rear of her vehicle, knocking her to the ground.

The officer was treated for head pain at Aria Health-Frankford and released. The driver wasn’t injured, according to police, but an arrest was made.

The driver’s identity has not yet been released.

Man shot in car

A man is hospitalized in stable condition after he was shot Sunday evening in the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a blue Nissan Maxima parked at 56th Street and Landsdowne Avenue when someone opened fire.

The man was shot once each in the chest and shoulder and taken by private vehicle to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. There is no word on a motive for the crime.
