MBTA bus driver allegedly assaulted by drunken woman with cane
A female bus driver was taken to the hospital Saturday night after a woman scratched her in the face with a cane.
Transit Police said the driver was attacked around 9:45 p.m. on a Silver Line bus in the South End, between Washington and West Newton streets.
The driver was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment after the incident.
The suspect, Janeene Whitehurst, who police said appeared intoxicated, was arrested.
Transit Police have reported an uptick in violent assaults on bus drivers and trolley operators, who they say are targets for violent offenders due to the hours they work and the isolated nature of their jobs.
