Mayor Michael Nutter introduces new website for the arts
Mayor Michael Nutter announced the launch of a new website today that he says will improve the livability and creativity in Philadelphia.
The new website, www.cultureblocks.com, is a free “mapping tool that supports people and organizations making decisions about place-making, the arts, and creativity in Philadelphia,” according to a news release.
“CultureBlocks symbolizes the extraordinary role the creative community has played in our City’s economic recovery and neighborhood development,” said Mayor Nutter in a statement. “This web-based tool is the first of its kind in the Nation, and it is a testament to the creative sector in our city that Philadelphia is the first to undertake a project like this. Not only is this a tool that is free to the public, but various city agencies and non-profit organizations will use CultureBlocks in planning, business attraction efforts, investment decision-making, and in providing technical assistance to the arts community – all to improve the livability and creativity of our city.”
CultureBlocks, which is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and ArtPlace, is a part of a research initiative to understand the impact of the arts on neighborhoods and drive future investment in the arts, according to a news release.
