Second arrest in Aaron Hernandez murder probe
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the Aaron Hernandez murder case, according to reports.
The Bristol County District Attorney declined to comment on the arrest of Carlos Ortiz, who was reportedly arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice for fleeing Massachusetts following the June 17 murder of Odin Lloyd.
Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, 23, was arrested yesterday and charged with Lloyd’s murder. Ortiz reportedly waived extradition from Connecticut to Massachusetts.
New Britain State’s Attorney Brian Preleski told The Huffington Post that 27-year-old Ortiz was charged as a fugitive from justice and has waived extradition to Massachusetts. Prison records show Ortiz is being held on $1.5 million bail at a Hartford jail.
Ortiz was arrested Wednesday in Hernandez’s hometown of Bristol, C.T. He is scheduled to return to court on July 23.
Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson told CNN that during his first 24 hours in jail, Hernandez has been “polite and cooperative” and a “model inmate.” He is due in Bristol County Superior Court today for a bail hearing.
