Body found in Boston Harbor is man who fell from boat

Nearly two days after the search for a man who fell from a ferry in Boston Harbor was called off, his body was recovered by police Tuesday afternoon. 

The body of the 41-year-old Wilmington man was found in the water between Castle and Spectacle islands about 1:15 p.m. by Boston and Quincy police, according to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. Police were using sonar equipment when they found the body.

The man’s remains were taken to the Boston police marine unit where they were transferred to state police who are investigating the death.

Because the death does not appear to be suspicious, the man’s name was not released.

Authorities received word about 10:45 p.m. Saturday of a man overboard from the Provincetown II, according to a statement from the Coast Guard. The ferry crew notified the Coast Guard that the man had fallen into the water near Castle Island. The man was on the third deck at the time he fell.

The ferry was hosting a country-music themed cruise and the man was trying to climb the boat’s railings when he fell, according to the Globe.

An autopsy was expected to determine the cause and manner of death, the district attorney’s office said.
