Teen shot and killed by rookie cop in the Bronx

An armed 14-year-old boy was killed by a rookie cop after attempting to shoot another man in the South Bronx on Sunday morning, police said.

Around 3 a.m., two uniformed police officers in their second month out of the academy were on foot patrol at East 151st Street and Courtlandt Avenue when they heard shots half a block away.

The officers observed a man running away from another man with a 9mm handgun. The armed man shot at the fleeing man before the officers identified themselves as police and ordered him to “drop the gun.”

When the armed suspect didn’t comply, one of the officers fired once at him, striking him in the jaw.

Shaaliver Douse, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene. A black semiautomatic firearm was recovered.

The officers, ages 26 and 27, were taken to Jacobi Hospital and treated for ringing ears. No other injuries were reported as of Sunday morning, cops said.

The officers were part of the department’s Impact team, which patrols high-crime neighborhoods in the city.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Douse was charged for the attempted murder a 15-year-old after a shooting in May, according to News 12 Bronx. Those charges were later dropped.
