Pregnant woman killed by falling tree in Queens
A 30-year-old woman who was sitting on a bench in a Queens park was struck and killed by a falling tree Sunday, police said.
Yingyi Li was in Kissena Park in Flushing about 6:25 p.m. when the large tree fell on top of her, police said. She was taken to New York Hospital of Queens, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The woman’s husband told the New York Daily News that she was six months pregnant and they were expecting a daughter.
A nearby resident told the News that falling tree branches have become a common problem in Kissena Park.
“There’s been a few people hurt in the park, but nothing this tragic,” Salvatore Delligatti, 64, said.
At least 12 people have been hurt by falling tree limbs in the city over the past eight weeks, according to NYC Park Advocates.
A second woman who was also injured by the tree on Sunday evening is in serious condition, NBC 4 New York has reported.
