A Queens woman angrily drove off in an SUV with her husband clinging to the top of the vehicle and killed him in a collision Sunday.

Maria Espinosa, 51, was driving westbound on Jamaica Avenue about 8 a.m. with the victim, 34-year-old Matthew Soria, holding on to the hood of the car, police said.

She was making a U-turn in the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and Crescent Street when she collided with another vehicle, causing Soria to fall off the car. He suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

The couple had gotten into an argument about money when Espinosa jumped into the blue Ford Explorer, The New York Post reports. Soria demanded money and the car keys from her, but she pushed him away, which prompted him to jump onto the hood of the car.

Espinosa backed up the vehicle and hit a parked car, but Soria was still holding on, witnesses told the Post. The woman then hit the gas and sped down Jamaica Avenue with her husband hanging on for his life.

She drove for several blocks, hitting speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, before ultimately getting into the collision that killed her husband.

Espinosa has been charged with murder, manslaughter and assault, police said.

Two passengers in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.
