Mosquitoes with West Nile Virus found in Harlem
The NYC Department of Health alerted those living near Riverbank State Park that the area’s mosquitoes were infected with West Nile virus.
The DOH says more evidence has to be collected before they can spray the neighborhood with pesticides.
“Harlem has not met the criteria for spraying, but additional mosquito traps have been put in the area to closely monitor virus activity,” the health department said in a statement.
Two Staten Island residents were infected with the virus this summer and were diagnosed with encephalitis.
