Former Congressman and mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner proposed infrastructure Wednesday that would curb beach erosion along the city’s coastlines.

Weiner would like to construct jetties and groins that would protect the city’s beaches from rising sea levels as a result of climate change.

Idea #56 in his “Key’s to the City” book, the proposal aims to restore and protect beaches that act as a barrier to more than one million people who were affected by the surge resulting from Superstorm Sandy.

“If we learned one thing from how Superstorm Sandy ravaged New York, it’s that the Rockaways serve as a protecting force for the rest of our city, and we must ensure that the safety of those that live there is of the utmost importance,” Weiner said in a statement on the proposal.

He discussed the proposal at the Beach 97th Street boardwalk in the Rockaways, which was repaired after the destruction of Sandy.

The area has been described as Weiner’s base. A week admitting to continuing having sexually-explicit conversations with women online in the years since his resignation, Weiner spoke at a Friends of Rockaway Beach forum, where he blasted the city’s response to the storm at the forum.

“The storm came, and without fear of contradiction, I don’t think the city’s response was great. The community’s response was amazing, the way you pulled together,” he said.

A livelong resident of the Rockaways said at the forum that he appreciated Weiner’s support of the area.

“I’d like to have a mayor with a controversy rather than one we’re never going to see again,” artist Patrick Clark told Weiner.
