Thousands stolen from TD Bank customers in NJ
Police are warning TD Bank customers of an apparent ATM skimming scheme that has resulted in the theft of thousands of dollars from dozens of customers’ accounts in New Jersey and the New York City area.
The thefts were first reported on Aug. 3, according to an NBC10 report. At least a dozen customers at TD Bank’s Northfield, N.J., branch office reported thefts in early August.
Northfield police told NBC10 the thefts range from $1,400 to $2,200 per account.
Police and TD Bank officials have also been alerted to 11 similar thefts at the bank’s branches in Egg Harbor Township and Brigantine. New reports allege that fraudulent ATM withdrawals from TD Bank customers’ accounts have spread to the New York City area.
TD Bank says it has already taken steps to prevent future fraudulent withdrawals and will reimburse any customers who have been victimized in the scheme.
