Market8, one of six casinos vying for a license to operate in Philadelphia, yesterday released renderings of its proposed complex at 8th and Market streets.

A release from Market8 operator Mohegan Sun states the ground floor of the casino would be comprised exclusively of restaurants and retail in a bid to “energize the street level and enhance surrounding commercial neighborhoods.”

The design calls for an interior “focused around a dramatic central atrium” connected by escalators “sculpted around a 4-story, dynamic video feature,” with the second and third floors dedicated to casino space bordered by “bars, fine and casual dining, live entertainment, VIP gaming and lounges,” and the higher floors surrounded by outdoor terraces.

Plans for the fourth floor include a multipurpose venue for live performances, meetings and boxing, plus a two-story “ultra” dance lounge.

The fifth floor of the proposed casino would consist of a hotel, plus a 168-room tower with a spa and fitness club.

Other casinos competing for a license to operate in Philadelphia include PHL Local Gaming’s Casino Revolution, Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino, Live! Hotel & Casino proposed by Greenwood Racing and Cordish Companies, Steve Wynn’s Wynn Philadelphia and Bart Blatstein’s The Provence.

Officials with the city of Philadelphia will have their chance to weigh in on the proposals during a Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board hearing Tuesday slated for 11 a.m. at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
