Placenta found in back of Center City McDonald’s
A placenta was found behind a McDonald’s restaurant at 10th and Market streets in Center City on Monday morning, police said. The placenta, which is the organ formed in the lining of the uterus that provides nourishment for the fetus and the elimination of its waste during pregnancy, was discovered by an employee about 6:30 a.m.
The worker spotted a container that had blood on it. A local hospital determined it to be a placenta.
“I believe they were going back to search the area to see if they could find anything in any of the dumpsters, and I don’t believe that at this time they have recovered anything,” said police spokeswoman Christine O’Brien.
