After 12 years of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Yorkers will put a new man in charge of the city. But only if they vote.

The deadline to register to vote in the general mayoral election next month is Oct. 11.

New Yorkers who haven’t registered to vote just a day to do so.

Here’s how to register at the last minute:

  • Voter registration forms, which can be found in PDF form on the Board of Elections website, must be postmarked by Oct. 11 and received by Oct. 16. (The address: Board of Elections in the City of New York, 32 Broadway, 7 Fl, New York, NY 10004-1609.)

  • The Board of Elections office at 32 Broadway in Manhattan will be open until midnight Friday to collect voter registrations in person.

  • Anyone with a New York State-issued driver’s license or identification card can register to vote online through the Department of Motor Vehicles.

  • New Yorkers who have recently moved should update their registration with their new address so that their name will be at their new poll site.

  • Those wishing to vote in next year’s party elections, including the Democratic or Republican primary, must change their registration to include a party affiliation by Oct. 11 as well, if they aren’t already registered with a party. In New York State, party affiliations cannot be changed the same year of the primary election.

  • For more on how to register, or to see voter qualifications, check out the Board of Elections website.

Happy voting!
