Officials with Philabundance know how important it is to keep their shelves stocked. That’s why their partnership with SEPTA is so important.

There are still a few days left for commuters to donate food to one of 42 locations set up around the city to benefit the hunger relief organization.

“Having our shelves full is critically important, said Bill Clark, Philabundance president, especially with the holidays coming and because the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see cuts soon.

Due to the SNAP cuts, Clark said Philabundance is ramping up fundraising efforts to make sure the food is there for the families who need it.

“We reach out aggressively to any of our donors that can provide us with goods,” he said. “And we buy food that can augment the inventory.”

Jeannette Hood, director of the Berachah Food Pantry in Cheltenham, said they rely on Philabundance to keep food for the more than 100 families that visit there each week.

“The relationship with Philabundance has been a tremendous help,” Hood said. “Without that relationship, I don’t know how we would keep this going.”

How to donate

Canned Items needed include: tuna, pasta, corn, fruit, green beans, chili and beef stew. Plastic containers of peanut butter and jelly are also sought.
