Police are looking for a driver who early Saturday morning fled the scene of a North Philadelphia chain reaction crash that left a woman in critical condition.

A 23-year-old man behind the wheel of a black 2009 Toyota Corolla told investigators he was driving south on Second Street near Westmoreland Street when shortly after 3 a.m. a car of an unknown make and model ran a red light.

The man said he tried to swerve and was struck by the other driver, whose identity is unknown.

Police said the Toyota driver then lost control of his car and hit a parked 2013 Toyota Rav4, causing the SUV to slam into a parked 2002 Honda.

The Toyota went on to crash into a 1995 Mercedes Benz and a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, both of which were parked, according to investigators.

The driver accused of touching off the crash allegedly fled the scene, driving west on Westmoreland Street.

Police said the driver was gone when officers arrived.

Medics took the 23-year-old Toyota driver to Temple University Hospital for complaints of neck and side pain.

The front seat passenger in the Toyota was taken to Temple with a broken right arm, an injury police described as “severe.”

She was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Authorities said the Toyota’s rear passenger, a 21-year-old woman, had an asthma attack during the crash and was also taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are searching for the driver who fled the scene.

Anyone with information on the suspect or crime is asked to call 911, or to submit an anonymous tip by dialing 215-686-TIPS (8477), texting PPD TIP (773847), emailing tips@phillypolice.com or by filling out this online form.
