DA withdraws case against Rev. Robert L. Brennan
The Prosecution of Rev. Robert L. Brennan for sexually abusing an 11-year-old boy over a four-year period has been withdrawn.
District Attorney Seth Williams announced yesterday that his office was prepared to put Brennan on trial, but with the death of Brennan’s victim who stepped forward, the case lost it’s evidence.
“In this situation we thought that there was not enough independent evidence, circumstantial or direct, to continue with the prosectution of Father Brennan,” Williams said.
Sean McIlmail said Brennan molested him while he was a student at Resurrection of Our Lord in Rhawnhurst.
McIlmail, 26, died from an overdose on Oct. 13. He was set to testify at Brennan’s preliminary hearing last week.
Williams urged other victims to step forward.
“I know there were a lot of victims,” he said. “I hope if there are any other victims that they will call 9-1-1 today.”
