Delaware State Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck a pedestrian Sunday evening on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington.

Troopers shortly before 6:45 p.m. responded to Kirkwood Highway, west of Evelyn Drive, for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

An investigation and review of video surveillance footage allegedly revealed the pedestrian, a 44-year-old man, was walking east on the sidewalk, near the westbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway.

A large SUV, for reasons investigators say remain unknown, allegedly veered from the right lane onto the road’s shoulder, striking the man in the chest with the vehicle’s passenger-side side-view mirror.

The pedestrian was knocked to the ground, while the SUV continued driving west on Kirkwood Highway.

The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was treated for head and arm injuries and released.

Police are still looking for the vehicle that allegedly struck him.

It is described as a large, tan, yellow or cream-colored SUV.

Its passenger-side side-view mirror was damaged in the crash.

Anyone with information on the suspect or crime is asked to contact Troop 6 at 302-660-3775, or to submit an anonymous tip by texting CRIMES (274637) with the keyword “DSP,” calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, by downloading the Delaware State Police Mobile Crime Tip App or by filling out this online form.
