Woman’s leg severed by passing J train during apparent suicide attempt, officials say
A woman’s leg was severed by a passing train during an apparent suicide attempt in Brooklyn Saturday afternoon, according to officials.
The 29-year-old woman, who was not otherwise identified, was walking on the roadbed of the elevated tracks at the Gates Avenue station in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 2:50 p.m. when a passing northbound J train hit her, police said.
The woman’s left leg up to her knee was severed, the fire department said. She also had a fracture in her right ankle but was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
Police said it appeared the woman was trying to commit suicide.
