The family of a Willow Grove man who was cooperating with authorities in a clergy sex abuse case before his death last month has filed a lawsuit against the Philadelphia Archdiocese and the man’s alleged abuser.

The lawsuit claims Rev. Robert L. Brennan abused Sean McIlmail for four years, beginning in 1993 when McIlmail was 11 and attending Resurrection of Our Lord Parish school in Philadelphia’s Rhawnhurst section, CBS Philly reports.

Brennan is labeled as a serial sexual predator in two grand jury documents, according to report.

McIlmail died last month of an accidental drug overdose. He was 26.

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office dropped its case against Brennan after McIlmail’s death.

Attorneys representing the McIlmail family told CBS Philly the lawsuit is not about money, but rather justice for those who were abused by Philadelphia Archdiocese clergy.

The lawsuit also names Monsignor William Lynn, a former secretary of clergy for the archdiocese. Lynn is currently serving a three- to six-year prison sentence for covering up clergy sex abuse.
