Questions linger after the bodies of a married couple and their twin infant boys were discovered inside an Arlington home.

Law enforcement officials declined to release details on the deaths, saying they were in the early stages of the investigation, however authorities said they were not pursuing a suspect. Authorities have said the family died violently and that the couple had been planning to divorce, according to the Globe.

The victims were identified as Scott Jones, 43, Mei Kum Jones, 43, both of Arlington, and their sons Colt and Cameron, who would have had their first birthday on Nov. 26, according to a press release from the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

Speaking to the media at a 4 p.m. press conference, Ryan declined to say whether the incident was being handled as a murder-suicide.

There were reports that the victims were slashed, however Ryan refused to comment on what kind of weapon, if any, was used.

“The manner and means of death will be determined by the medical examiner. … We’re not looking for anyone at this point,” she said, adding, “This is obviously a very troubling, very tragic situation.”

Mei worked at Road Scholar, a non-profit educational travel organization based in Boston. In a statement issued Monday night, the organization said it was mourning her death.

“Mei was a valued member of our team, and her loss is deeply felt by all of us,” the statement said. “As we grieve together, we can only imagine the impossible loss Mei’s family must bear, and our deepest sympathies are with them.”

On social media, Mei described herself as Bentley University graduate who was interested in yoga, reading, walking and film.

Neighbors described her husband, Scott, as a meticulous man who was often seen cleaning outside his home and making improvements to the property. The marriage was reportedly the second for both of them.

The multi-family house, located at 45 Newland Road, was blocked off and surrounded by law enforcement officials by 1 p.m., shortly after the family’s babysitter called police to request a wellness check. The babysitter had trouble gaining entry to the home, according to Ryan.

An officer who arrived at the home discovered the bodies.

During the media briefing, Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan attempted to ease local concerns raised by the lack of information.

“It is important for you to understand that there is no risk to public safety at this time. We are quite certain that the community is safe and people can go about their business.”

Eager for answers, a crowd of media waited for hours outside the residence as detectives, wearing white cloth booties on their feet, worked the scene.

The road was closed off, and choppers hovered above, drawing a cluster of distraught onlookers.

Neighbor Joe Hersey told reporters near the home, “It’s shocking. It’s a very quiet neighborhood.”

“I’m heartsick for the kids. It’s heartbreaking,” said Newland Road resident Amy Iannelli.

The home is just steps away from Peirce Elementary School.
