Campbell, the cat who is still recovering from being set on fire by two men who could spend the next 10 years in jail, is getting a new home thanks to a Philadelphia Fire Department lieutenant.

Stephen Paslawski, a 14-year-veteran, will adopt Campbell who will join his other cat, Tink.

“When I saw the story about Campbell,” Paslawski said in a news release from the Pennsylvania SPCA, “I was disgusted that anyone could do this to any animal.”

Paslawski just had to put down another one of his cats who had a large tumor. He said his first meeting with Campbell was “amazing.”

“After a few minutes of petting him in the cage,” he said, “he put his paws up on me and climbed onto my shoulder as if to say, ‘I choose you.’ I knew right then it was meant to be. He’ll have a loving home for the rest of his life.”

Campbell will go home with Paslawski in a few weeks after the cat’s burns heal more.

Two men have been charged with animal cruelty after they set Campbell on fire on Nov. 10. A witness saw Campbell running down the street with flames engulfing his body. Tyrique Hall, 21, and Jose Sanchez, 18, have also been charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of an instrument of crime.
