Figure skaters to showcase talent on Boston Frog Pond

Local figure skaters will showcase their talent next week on the Boston Frog Pond in the Common.

According to organizers, the free Skating Spectacular event will take place at 5 p.m. on Dec. 5, before the 72nd Annual Official Tree Lighting.

The Skating Club of Boston, Olympic hopefuls, is the city’s strongest team in 50 years, according to city officials.

The skaters are expected to divulge details about etheir training for the Championships, how they feel about competing in front of a “home” crowd in January and their prospects for making the 2014 Olympic team.

Hosted by The Skating Club of Boston, the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be held from January 5- 12, 2014 at the TD Garden and the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The event is the final qualifying competition prior to the selection of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team for the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (Feb. 6-23, 2014); Team USA will be announced at Boston’s TD Garden on January 12.
