The FDNY had some explaining to do after it recently sent out a mysterious ambulance bill addressed to “Unknown Asian.”

The $784 bill was delivered to The New School’s 2 W. 13th St. building earlier this week, The New York Post reported.

A dean’s office assistant at the school found the bill in the office mail.

“When I saw it said ‘Unknown Asian,’ I thought it was racist,” said Chris Rivera.

Christine Ahn, another staffer in the office, opened the letter.

“I hesitated to open it but then I was like, ‘Well, I could be an unknown Asian,’” she said.

The unknown patient was billed for an ambulance ride on Nov. 1 from 255 W. 14th St. to Beth Israel Medical Center. An FDNY source told the Post that the female patient was transported about 3 a.m. for a “drug or intoxication” issue.

A person accompanying the woman told EMS that she lived in The New School’s dormitory. When EMS workers could not identify the woman by her name, they filled in “Unknown” for her first name and “Asian” for her last name.

The paperwork was processed and a contractor sent out the bill.

The FDNY is working to correct the issue and has asked its vendor not to send out bills that have “unknown” for a name.
