Lottery officials seek winners of unclaimed jackpots in New York

A dozen New York residents have yet to claim their lottery jackpots of a million dollars or more, and now the Cuomo administration is making a push to find the missing winners.

“A lucky individual’s holiday season could be vastly improved, and they don’t know it yet,” New York Lottery Director Gardner Gurney told The New York Post.

NY Lottery’s Yolanda Vega and Gretchen Dizer are set to visit an upstate liquor store on Thursday where a $1 million Powerball ticket was sold earlier this year and is set to expire in one month.

Lottery winners have one year to claim their prize before the money goes back into the prize pool. A total of 12 jackpots of a million dollars or more have gone unclaimed in the state this year, including winning tickets that were sold in New York City.

C&C Discount Store in the Bronx sold a $1 million Powerball ticket in February, the Post reported.

“I hope this person finds out that he won,” said Carlos Caceres, the store’s owner.

In Brooklyn, a $130.3 million prize from a Powerball drawing last month has yet to be claimed. That ticket was sold at Rocco’s Bakery & Deli in Brighton Beach.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo told The Post that the Lottery Division “is actively looking for these winners so they can collect on the prizes that are rightfully theirs.”
