An ice jam on the Delaware River near Trenton, N.J.,  has prompted concerns of flooding in Bucks County in Pennsylvania and Mercer County in New Jersey.

A mile-long stretch of ice formed Wednesday, NBC10 reports, and water rushed onto River Road in Lower Makefield Township, Pa., on Wednesday evening. Authorities shut down the road between Black Rock Road and Trenton Avenue, and were going to keep the stretch of roadway closed until flood waters from the Delaware River have receded from the highway. In addition, some southbound lanes on Route 29 in Trenton and Route 32 north in Yardley, Pa., were closed due to flooding.

With temperatures in the teens and single digits in the Delaware Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday, the river’s water began to freeze, with chunks of ice joining together. Concerned the large ice formation will melt under warmer conditions, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Bucks and Mercer counties until 1 p.m. Thursday, as well as a flash flood warning for areas south of the mile-long chunk of ice, including Philadelphia, until 10 p.m.
