Aaron Hernandez suspected in 2012 South End shooting

Court documents released Thursday show Boston Police believe former New England Patriots player turned murder suspect Aaron Hernandez may have been the triggerman in a 2012 drive-by shooting in Boston’s South End.

A Connecticut court has unsealed a search warrant asking permission to search a silver SUV believed to be involved in the shooting, which killed Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

Hernandez, 24, is being held at the Bristol County jail awaiting trial in the shooting death of 27-year-old Dorchester man Odin Lloyd, who was gunned down in June near Hernandez’s Attleboro home. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge.

According to a Globe report, Boston police investigating the 2012 murders were looking for gunshot residue in the SUV and a duffle bag containing Hernandez’s clothing.

The unsealed affidavit says there was “probable cause to believe that Aaron Hernandez was operating the suspect vehicle used in the shooting homicides of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, and may have been the shooter.”
