Woonsocket boy found safe in Washington
A Woonsocket boy was found safe and his mother is facing serious charges after after an intense investigation on Thursday led police on a multi-state search.
On Thursday evening the Amber Alert was canceled for for 6-year-old Daniel Britt, who was abducted by his non-custodial mother. Daniel and his mom, Andria Britt, were found in Washington state, in the Island County area just north of Seattle. Washington is where Andria was originally believed to have been headed.
According to Rhode Island State Police and Woonsocket Police, Andria Britt voluntarily surrendered. She is being held in an Island County jail, facing charges that include being a fugitive from justice and child snatching.
In a late night press conference on Thursday, Daniel’s dad Sean Britt expressed his gratitude. “I’m really relieved. I’m happy my son is safe. I just want to make sure he is safe,” he said, according to the Providence Journal.
Rhode Island authorities issued an Amber Alert on Wednesday after Andria Britt, who has joint custody of her son, ignored a required court date on Jan. 8 and neglected to return the child to his father as part of a consent order.
