Nothing takes the edge off traveling like good food, beer and sports.

Luckily, come Wednesday, travelers passing through Boston’s busiest commuter hub will have the luxury of enjoying all three, as Tavern in the Square is set to open its new South Station location.

Nestled under the Amtrak board in the station’s concourse, the 800-square-foot spot will offer 40 seats, 32 craft beers, a limited menu of appetizers, salads, soups, and sandwiches, as well as high definition televisions.

“There was a void in the station and we are confident that we can fill this void and provide a tasty solution to the current problem,” said marketing representative Michele J Martin in an email confirming Wednesday’s opening. “We want to make commuting less of a chore and provide our new guests with a better commuting experience than what they have become accustomed to.”

The restaurant group has locations in Central Square, Porter Square, Allston, Salem and Burlington.

The Jan. 29 opening is part of a massive station transformation that includes a two-level, 30,000-square-foot CVS, a Starbucks, the return of Barbara’s Books, and a restroom upgrade.
