NYPD makes arrest in murder of 50 Cent’s friend
Police arrested and charged a man in connection to the shooting death of a Queens man associated with rapper 50 Cent.
Jamal Scott, 35, is suspected of murdering Jamal Green and shooting three others on Jan. 3 as they drove through Jamaica, Queens. Police have yet to apprehend a second suspected shooter.
Police are holding Scott for arraignment in Queens, prosecutors said.
Investigators said that Green was in an SUV driving eastbound on 134th Avenue when the car pulled up to a stop sign. Green was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle when Scott and the second suspect are reported as having walked up to the stop on foot and opened fire on the SUV around 4:10 p.m., hitting Green in the chest.
The three other passengers wounded but survived the shooting. Green was pronounced dead at the scene.
Performing with the stage name Mazaradi Fox, Green was a former member of the rap group G-Unit made famous by rapper 50 Cent.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown bemoaned the shooting as “another unfortunate example of the senseless gun violence” that left one man dead and the three others hurt “as they sat helplessly inside a non-moving vehicle.”
“The defendant’s alleged actions were violent and ruthless and the charges against him will be vigorously prosecuted,” Brown said in a statement.
Green had just been released on parole for a 2011 attempted assault conviction on Dec. 20.
If convicted, Scott faces in up to 25 years to life in prison.
