A 22-year-old Georgia man faces vehicular manslaughter and other charges after police said he stole a box truck that collided with a city bus in Greenwich Village on Wednesday, killing the driver.

Dominic Whilby, of Griffin, Ga., allegedly stole the delivery truck, marked 18 Rabbits Granola, on 16th Street about 5:30 a.m. before slamming into a crosstown MTA bus at 14th Street and Seventh Avenue several minutes later.

New Jersey resident William Pena, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority and police officials.

A 17-year veteran of the MTA, Pena was the first bus operator with the MTA killed during a collision in more than 14 years.

After Whilby struck the bus with the stolen truck, both vehicles plowed onto the sidewalk, partially collapsing scaffolding and hitting several parked cars in the process.

A bus passenger, a coffee vendor and one of his customers were treated for minor injuries. The operator of a three-wheeled scooter was hit by the truck before the crash.

Whilby was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody after the collision.

He has been charged with manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter, as well as two counts of grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and three counts of felony assault.
