Truck fire delays morning commute in Dorchester
A tractor trailer caught fire on Route 93 Thursday morning, significantly delaying the early morning commute in Dorchester.
The incident happened near exit 12 on southbound Route 93, with the Boston Fire Department being called to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. The fire, which engulfed the tractor trailer, was extinguished by 6:45, according to the fire department. As a result, authorities were forced to shut down the HOV lane.
Two lanes are currently open; commuters should expect significant delays, are are encouraged to seek alternate routes, according to Massachusetts State Police. Two lanes are being diverted off to Columbia Road.
The fire increases delays caused by the latest snowstorm pummeling the region. More than 930 crews statewide are treating and plowing the slushy, icy roads.
There were no injuries reported.
