Queens man arrested in New York City’s first reported killing of 2014
Police arrested a man they said is responsible for the first murder of 2014 in New York City.
Sheldon Smith, 26, was arrested seven weeks after 22-year-old Julio Mora was found shot to death early New Year’s Day, police said.
Officers found Mora about 1:15 a.m. Jan. 1 in a 113th Avenue building just a block from Smith’s South Jamaica home.
Police initially believed Mora was stabbed to death, but the medical examiner determined he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Smith was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said late Monday.
