Mayor Bill de Blasio argued on Monday that no city employee — himself included — is above the law, but he won’t tell his security staff how to do its job.

De Blasio finally took questions from press after bolting out of an unrelated event on late Friday afternoon when CBS2 reported his motorcade broke various traffic laws as it left an announcement in Queens the day before.

“I will not get into a discussion of their security protocols,” de Blasio said of his NYPD-staffed security detail. “That’s just a red line from my point of view because that to me is a very slippery slope.”

De Blasio nonetheless dismissed some of the reporting in the wake of the speeding report. He argued there should be “a different examination of what matters and doesn’t matter in the scheme of things.”

When pressed if he thought the ongoing scrutiny the administration has faced over the last two months was unfair, de Blasio said decision-making comes with the job.

“If you don’t like the heat, get out of the kitchen, as Harry Truman used to say,” said the mayor. “I chose to take the heat.”
