Rear wheel of special-needs bus swallowed by Manhattan pothole
The back wheel of a school bus carrying special needs students sunk into a Manhattan street Tuesday morning on the way to school.
Nine students and four aides were on the bus when a pothole on 164th Street and Broadway gave way under the rear left wheel, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education said.
DNAinfo reported that the wheel was swallowed into the ground at around 8 a.m., but authorities said no one was hurt.
A replacement driver was dispatched to send the students on their way to P226M at Health Professions and Human Services High School and P138M at Junior High School 47 in lower Manhattan.
The bus was subsequently towed, and a construction crew began to repair the street soon after.
