Count former Gov. Ed Rendell in.

After helping to fire off ceremonial cannons during the opening salvo for the forthcoming Museum of the American Revolution, Rendell remarked that if the people want  him to help bring the Democratic National Convention to Philadelphia, he’s all for it.

“If that’s the will of the majority,” Rendell said, “I’d be happy to do it.”

City Councilman Jim Kenney said last week — after Mayor Michael Nutter’s office formally tossed the city’s name into the hat to host the 2016 convention — that a local committee tasked to help draw the event should be chaired by one man.

“I would love to see someone like Ed Rendell chair it,” Kenney said last week. “I can’t think of a better person than Ed Rendell, or someone like him — but there’s really no one like him.”

Rendell said Wednesday that the city has a fighter’s chance to lure the convention.

“I think we did a great job with the 2000 Republican Convention, and I think the Democrats would love to come here,” he said. ”How could you not love being in a place where the country was founded?”

If they get this committee together, “We’d have a great chance” to bring the convention, he said.
