Aaron Hernandez facing assault and battery charges for jailhouse fight
Former New England Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez, is facing assault and battery charges for allegedly attacking another inmate at the Bristol County House of Correction in New Bedford, where he is awaiting trial for allegedly murdering a Dorchester man.
Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson said in a Thursday night interview with WHDH-TV that Hernandez, 24, will be charged in connection to the Feb. 25 jailhouse fight which ended in the injury of another prisoner. The inmate will not be charged, Hodgson said, declining to go into detail about the fight.
Hernandez, who is accused of shooting and killing 27-year-old Odin Lloyd last summer, is typically kept from the general population, but attacked the inmate as the two crossed paths in an isolated hallway.
TMZ reported: “Hernandez and the other man had been beefing all day long. One source says the other guy had been harassing Aaron nonstop. Clearly, Hernandez was pissed.”
